How does SAAT work?
Diagnosis: Our allergy specialist will begin by process of elimination to identify the specific allergens affecting you. If you have a report from your western medicine doctor listing the allergens you're sensitive to, this will expedite our process. If you suspect an unknown allergy, we will collaborate with you to determine the source of your reaction. This might involve avoiding certain exposures and maintaining an allergy diary/log.
Treatment: After identifying the allergen, we will locate the reaction point in your ear for the allergen. The SAAT treatment uses one tiny spinex pin per allergen to treat the allergic reaction, and also removing any cross allergies related to that allergen. The pin is inserted horizontally on the ear. Patients often wonder about the pain level of this small pin compared to syringe needles used in a medical doctor's office. Our ear is made up of soft cartilage, and the pin is extremely small and thin in diameter, minimizing pain. It is often painless enough for children to undergo pin insertion.
Treatment duration: The pin will remain in place for at least 3 weeks. A small piece of medical grade adhesive tape will secure the pin in place and a small ear cover will be provided to help protect the ear from water drop during shower.
